Woman and Youth Political Representation Enhanced (WYPRE) in 2019 and 2020
Elections in Tanzania
Partner: Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA); We Effect, Sweden
Funded by: European Union (EU)
The Project is funded by the EU delegation to Tanzania and is implemented by the Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA), Tanzania Youth Coalition (TYC) and We Effect with the latter assuming the coordination role.
The goal is to increase inclusive political representation for women and youth in the 2019 and 2020 elections at both national and local levels in Tanzania. This action seeks to address barriers that prevent women and youth from participating in political processes, leading to their under-representation in decision-making positions, particularly elected roles. The action aims to create more opportunities for women and youth to participate and be elected at both local and national levels in the 2019 and 2020 general elections in Tanzania.
The action targets three regions of Tanzania: Arusha, Tanga, and Mwanza. It will cover 28 constituencies to promote national representation for women and youth. Forward (councilor) representative positions, the action will focus on 13 constituencies. For village/street chair positions, 20 villages will be identified within each of the 13 constituencies (260 villages in total), with women and youth supported to run for and secure village/street chairpersons’ positions during the 2019 elections.
TYC is the implementing partner responsible for organizing workshops, seminars, and outreach programs specifically for young people.
